The term ‘colour psychology’ might be foreign to most, but to a trained eye, it is their world. Simply, colour psychology focuses on the effects of color on mood, emotion, and behavior. Most people pay little attention to the colours they wear, farther than whether it matches their shoes. But in a world inundated by hundreds of colours every day, it is important to understand what you are dealing with, especially when colour trends are flying by faster than a jet aeroplane. Learning to look at colour with a critical eye takes hard work, but once you understand the basics, you will be able to read farther into fashion colours and understand how they relate to you deeper than whether it matches your complection.

One of spring 2010’s hottest colours is green. Here is some colour psychology about this fashion colour for you to think about while you’re shopping for spring clothes.

The Colour Psychology of Green:

  • Green is a cool color that symbolizes nature and the natural world.
  • Green represents tranquility, good luck, health, and jealousy.
  • Green has long been a symbol of fertility and was once the preferred color choice for wedding gowns in the 15th-century. Even today, green M&M candies are said to send a sexual message.
  • Green is thought to relieve stress and help heal.
  • Dark green is masculine, conservative, and implies wealth.
  • Seamstresses often refuse to use green thread on the eve of a fashion show for fear it will bring bad luck.
